Sports competitions have been completely forgotten in Romania for some time as politics took their and any other activity’s place. Even though Romania’s national football team was playing a very important match in the Euro 2016 Qualifiers against Northern Ireland on home ground, the attendance was low as a consequence of the political reasons taking place at the moment. Politics has been the main subject as Victor Ponta, the actual prime-minister, and Klaus Iohannis, Sibiu’s mayor, were fighting for the presidential race. Iohannis has won the elections, and the German origins candidate is a huge tennis fan. Just second day after he won the elections, Romania’s new president was relaxing by playing a tennis match against a young tennis player. His passion for tennis is well known in Sibiu. Winning the presidential elections in Romania was a perfect moment for Klaus Iohannis to challenge current WTA number 3, Simona Halep for a tennis match. The event will take place in Sibiu next spring, according to the organizers.
